Many of you know my own juicing weight loss success story so I am always delighted to share other juicing success stories with you.
I would like to publish in full an email I received from Dan in wonderful Alaska.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Your story is encouraging and serves as proof that juicing can help accomplish the most difficult thing in life – a change of lifestyle!
My name is Dan. I am 63, 5’11” and now weigh 256 lbs. About 6 years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, Congestive Heart Failure, and High Blood Pressure. I weighed 293 at the time. On my first visit to the doctor I was told to change my lifestyle. It was said so nonchalant he might as well have told me to change my shirt. It struck me as something he’d said a hundred times before. I left feeling like I had been warned but there was no way I could do it.
Although it was too tall an order for me at the time, he planted a seed that would grow. To his credit he warned me against red meat and suggested I avoid processed food – anything in a box, can, or bag. I followed this advice and began to exercise. However my new diet and exercise routine were short lived. I fell back into my old ways and gained back the weight I had lost. I tried several different diets, usually felt unsatisfied, then weakened and would gain the weight back again. I repeated this cycle many times during the past 6 years until recently I began to lose hope of ever making a lifestyle change.
About 3 weeks ago at a weight of 272, I was eating fast food again and felt so lethargic that procrastination was making my life unmanageable. I’m self employed and have many opportunities I want to pursue. Wanting to do something while lacking the energy to do it is a sad state of mind. I began to lose hope and begged God for help. Then a few days later for some reason I decided to try NetFlix. I like documentaries and watched “Forks over Knives” and “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”. I was excited to hear about this and felt my prayer was being answered when I learned about plant based juicing. I was so encouraged I watched them several times!
The next day I bought a juicer, Organic fruits and vegetables, and began juicing. I follow the Pyramid diet described by Joe’s doctor in FS&ND. Since December 11th 98% of my diet has been fresh fruit and vegetables juice, nuts, and grains and 2% other. I’ve eliminated red meat, poultry, and dairy and I don’t miss them. Occasionally I have cod and a slice of whole wheat bread, avocado, or a banana. I like the juice and it reduces my appetite so I don’t want to eat much.
As of yesterday I’ve lost 16 lbs. in 19 days. Exercise is still a challenge but I am working on it.
For the first time I feel I can actually change my lifestyle. To reach that point frame of mind is so important. As we all know, if you think you can or if you think you can’t – you’re right! I now see juicing as a way of life and know in my heart it’s the answer I’ve been searching for. My goals are to weigh 200 lbs. and to reverse the diabetes, high blood pressure, and congestive heart failure. I have every confidence I will succeed. I’ve heard too many success stories, like yours, not to believe. My attitude is it took a long time to get in this condition and it will take time to heal. But I’ve experienced enough positive results that I remain inspired on a daily basis to continue. My energy level is returning and I’m getting things done again. I also feel good about myself and the direction I am going. I do a lot of research to learn as much as I can about juicing. To know that a whole food plant based diet cleanses and restores damaged cells and artery walls is very exciting to me. It gives me confidence and an overall feeling of wellbeing.
I started with an inexpensive juicer and last week looked into finding a Breville Juicer in my area. One store in Anchorage carries them but is out of stock. Whether or not I win a juicer I’m glad for the opportunity to share my story. I have a feeling that all of us who are juicing want to share our good fortune with others. With that in mind I would say to anyone at a crossroads in their life that you owe it to yourself to try juicing. As I mentioned, I’ve tried many diets. This is the only one that’s giving me a sense of lasting change
.Learning about the benefits of juicing plant based foods will also motivate you. If you are like many who need to make a true lifestyle change this too may be your answer. There is power in the truth and the choice is ours.
Thanks again Shane for sharing this juicing information. I wish you continued success and all the best to everyone on this path to a healthy and rewarding lifestyle.
I am truly humbled to read mails like this. I read so much nonsense about the alleged dangers of juicing from the ignorant media. Mails like this, and my own success story prove that juicing not only helps us shed weight but also opens our minds and recharges us.
In another mail I was explaining to Dan that moderate exercise should go hand in hand with juicing. Even a 30 minute walk in the park each day can and will help. (Only if you are physically capable of this.) Jason Juicemaster Vale recommends bouncing on a mini trampoline for instance.
What success have you had with juicing? Why not let us know and help to inspire others just as Dan has?
