So I am on day 2 of a 5 day juice fast. I came down with a cold last week for the first time in ages.
I know why. In the last four weeks I have been on the road with my job. Los Angeles, San Diego and Vancouver. Whilst I managed to get my work outs in I did not juice as well as I would like.
That caught up with me. Usually when the colds and flu hit the office I have the best protection against the sniffles. The fact I juice daily this time I did not have my armor on.
Yesterday I decided I needed to get on a fast again and recalibrate my body. I know both Jason ‘juicemaster’ Vale and Joe Cross from Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead do this every couple of months. Its a great way to get your mind back onto healthy foods and living when you have slipped a bit.
I met some old friends at a reunion in LA and I fell back into my old ways -eating meat and drinking some alcohol. It happens to the best of us.
I feel great though on day 2 of my fast. Woke up and got my running shoes on and hit the road. I have not worked out all week as I have felt really sick. So imagine my surprise when I looked at my Garmin 610 and saw I was clocking in 9.10 minute miles. Usually I am 9.30-10 mins. I had not decided I was going to run fast it just happened natural.
Normally when I start exercising after flu/cold it takes ages to get back into it but not today. I really do not think this is a coincidence. My body has had 24 hours worth of freshly extracted juices, all those lovely enzymes and nutrients. I have more energy as my digestive system has had 24 hours rest. This really is natures fuel.
I actually ran my fastest 4 miles ever. Just over 36 minutes!
Juicing is truly magical and its natural benefits are second to none.
So you can juice fast whilst running, swimming walking. I think the main thing is not to overdo it. I do not want to do more than 40 mins workout a day as I do not want to push my body too hard and lose the benefits of juicing. Honestly by day 3/4 your energy levels will be rocking on a juice fast.
