Hail the Kale!

So that’s my short 3 day juicing plan over and guess what?

I achieved my initial goal. I was over 190 lbs before I started and now I am at 186.5 lbs. So that 3.5 pounds lost with 3 days of juicing.

So its my first day when I can eat solid food and guess what I am having for breakfast….yes thats right juice!

You see juicing has many benefits, one of those is that a) you usually keep juicing a part of your life and b) you look at food very differently. Last night I went to Trader Joe’s for the first time. I was impressed with what they had on offer and it was half my groceries bill from Whole Food.

What was interesting for me is that I kept putting back food that was processed. As a vegetarian I love exploring some of the fake meat products but this can be deceptive. You think its healthy because its veggie but take a look at some of the ingredients. I could not even pronounce some of them. I really want to kick as much processed food out of my diet as possible.

This is a result of a 3 day juice fast, imagine how you would feel after 7 days?

My sleeping has been superb and I have felt a lot of energy. Sure there were times when I wanted to eat some ‘real’ food but I kept think of Phil Staples from the documentary ‘Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead‘ and how he lost 250lbs plus by juicing for 60 days!! Awesome! More on this inspiring documentary soon.

So today in honour of Phil Staples the former truck driver from Iowa I am drinking the mainstay juice of his regime. Its called Reboot Recipe Juice #1 I have decided to call it ‘Hail the Kale!’ and here it is! This is an excellent green smoothie!

Hail the Kale
6 kale leaves
1 cucumber
4 celery stalks
2 apples
1/2 lemon
lump of ginger

Just juice the lot! I then add it to the blender and add a load of ice.  Ok on the face of it sounds gross but give it a whirl its actually very refreshing and just look at how many greens you are getting into your body!  Its probably more greens than I would take in a week in the old wicked days!

Why not give it a try? You can read more juice recipes from this documentary at Reboot Your Life.

I use the Jay Kordich Power Grind Pro Juicer.

  1. How many times a day? the same as food or more?
    thank you.

  2. Running on Juice says:

    Hi Alex

I usually have this one for breakfast and use the leftover for a mid morning snack.

You can juice the same thing but variety is key! There are some fruits and veggies out there that you do not need to confine yourself to one.

There are lots of recipes online. Just try and avoid the ones with dairy added.
